Trumpet player Ruben Drenth (1997) has a great love for the 60s, and you can hear it in his music! He graduated from the Utrecht Conservatory in 2018 with his Ruben Drenth Trio, under the guidance of Angelo Verploegen. He presented a program full of raw energy and improvisation. In 2023, he released an album with his trio called “How To Gather Moss,” where he transformed the music of The Rolling Stones into captivating and roaring improvisations. In his playing, he navigates through catchy, singable melodies and rhythmic, bold solos.
Ruben’s passion for the 60s extends beyond jazz: he has been performing as a singer and guitarist with The Tambles for 12 years, captivating audiences across the Netherlands and recently Europe. With this band, he has released three self-produced albums.
Additionally, he has performed with the Amsterdam Sinfonietta and Thomas Oliemans, in duo with Bert van den Brink, with Dion Nijland’s quintet DEON, with Egon Kracht & The Troupe, in the band of folk singer Robin Borneman, and with The Jerry Hormone Ego Trip. With the latter band, he has played at festivals such as Oerol, Into The Great Wide Open, and Eurosonic Noorderslag.
