Bio

Trumpet player Ruben Drenth (1997) is always on the lookout for new sounds and colors. In his playing, he navigates through catchy, singable melodies and rhythmic, bold solos.

He graduated from the Utrecht Conservatory (NL) in 2018 with his Ruben Drenth Trio, under the guidance of Angelo Verploegen. He presented a program full of raw energy and improvisation. In 2023, he released an album with his trio called “How To Gather Moss,” where he transformed the music of The Rolling Stones into captivating and roaring improvisations. In June 2025 he will release his latest project called ‘Bonsaika Suite‘: a surprising ode to bonsai trees and their creators.

Additionally, he has performed with the Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw, Amsterdam Sinfonietta and Thomas Oliemans, in duo with Bert van den Brink, with Dion Nijland’s quintet DEON, with Egon Kracht & The Troupe, The Tambles, Robin Borneman, and with The Jerry Hormone Ego Trip. With the latter band, he has played at festivals such as Oerol, Into The Great Wide Open, and Eurosonic Noorderslag.
